Sparkplug Expands Phoenix Service Area with Acquisition of Renaissance Networking; Completes the acquisition of CNG CommunicationsLeader in wireless broadband expands services to deliver fast, reliable and affordable broadband to businesses in Phoenix market PHOENIX—May 14, 2007—Sparkplug Inc. ( www.sparkplug.net ), a leading provider of business broadband services, today announced the expansion of its service area in the Phoenix market with its recent acquisition of Renaissance Networking, Inc. (RNi). Additionally, the company received formal approval from the FCC of the transfer of ownership of CNG Communications, which holds more than 180 FCC common carrier license paths in the 6, 11, and 18 GHz frequency bands. Through the acquisition of RNi, a Tempe, Ariz.-based provider of wireless business broadband services, Sparkplug adds business customers and network points of presence in over 250 buildings throughout the city. This rapidly expands Sparkplug’s service area in Phoenix, providing businesses with access to fast, affordable and reliable wireless broadband services to support mission-critical, high-bandwidth voice, video and data applications such as voice-over-Internet-protocol (VoIP), disaster recovery or redundancy, data and backup storage, virtual private networking (VPN) and other online applications. The terms of the acquisitions were not disclosed. "The RNi acquisition not only complements our existing Sparkplug network in Phoenix, it expands our service area in one of the fastest growing cities in the nation," said Jeff Hardesty, COO of Sparkplug. "More important, it brings businesses in the greater Phoenix area access to Sparkplug’s affordable and scalable broadband services with speeds from 2 Mbps to 1 Gbps, which can be installed within days." "Sparkplug provides business, carrier, government and education customers with fast, reliable and redundant connections from traditional wired networks," said Bill Malloy, CEO of Sparkplug. "The acquisition of RNi expands our ability to serve more businesses in Phoenix. In addition, the acquisition of CNG completes the transfer of FCC licensed microwave paths which are used for much of our network backbone and last-mile connections for our carrier, government and education customers throughout the state of Arizona and other locations in the Southwest." Sparkplug was formed last year as a result of the merger of three established companies: Sparkplug in Chicago; Prairie iNet in Des Moines, Iowa; and Telespectra in Phoenix. With operations and networks across eight states, Sparkplug is one of the largest service providers in the wireless business broadband market. Compared to traditional wired networks, Sparkplug’s business broadband network offers customers significant advantages. In addition to lower costs, improved reliability, flexibility and scalability, Sparkplug offers higher, dedicated, symmetrical bandwidth, which means businesses get the same full upload and download speeds. Customers can cost-effectively scale their bandwidth from 2 Mbps to 1 Gbps in a fraction of the time it would take to provision the bandwidth from a traditional wired provider. In addition to existing telecom services, businesses use Sparkplug wireless broadband to add capacity, redundancy and reliability for services such as broadband access, VoIP, video and other advanced IP services. Large enterprises, cellular carriers and government customers also depend on Sparkplug to provide data transport, back-haul and trunking, and to install and manage their data connections from one location to another.
